Root Canal Treatment

Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment, also known as endodontic therapy, is a dental procedure aimed at saving a tooth that has become severely infected or damaged. The pulp, which is the soft tissue inside the tooth containing nerves and blood vessels, can become inflamed or infected due to deep decay, cracks, repeated dental procedures, or trauma. If left untreated, this infection can cause severe pain, abscesses, and even lead to tooth loss.

During a root canal procedure, the dentist or endodontist carefully removes the infected or damaged pulp, cleans and disinfects the inside of the tooth, and shapes the root canals. The cleaned canals are then filled with a biocompatible material to seal them and prevent further infection. Finally, the tooth is restored with a crown or filling to ensure its strength, function, and appearance.

Benefits of root canal treatment include:

  • Relieving pain caused by infection or inflammation

  • Preserving the natural tooth instead of extraction

  • Restoring normal chewing and biting function

  • Preventing the spread of infection to surrounding teeth or bone

  • Maintaining the natural appearance of the smile

With modern techniques and proper care, root canal treatment has a high success rate and can help patients retain their natural teeth for many years.
